When the system detects a pedestrian or animal lurking more than 80 feet down the road, it will highlight them with a yellow box while displaying an eye-catching warning on the front instrument panel or heads-up display. If evasive action isn’t taken the system can display a collision alert warning on the heads-up display and sound a high-pitched alert that will allow both drivers and passengers to brace for collision. 

However, the Night Vision system is only one of the XT6’s advanced camera-based safety features. The SUV is available with a rear camera mirror that replaces the typical rearview mirror with a digital screen that displays an unobstructed view of the road thanks to an HD camera mounted on the trunk. The rear camera mirror should be especially helpful when the third row is occupied, and drivers can adjust the mirror’s brightness, vertical tilt, and zoom to get a clearer look at their surroundings.

Those seeking the SUV’s most athletic guise should consider test-driving the XT6’s Sport trim, which, in addition to coming standard with AWD, is also designed with sport-tuned steering and a torque-vectoring rear differential that gives the model a little more get-up-and-go. While the standard XT6 can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, the Sport model bests that number by almost a full second at 6.4. 

No matter which model you choose, you’ll get access to four distinct drive modes, including Tour, Sport, AWD, and Off-Road. In Tour Mode, drivers will enjoy optimal efficiency that allows them to take advantage of the SUV’s EPA-estimated 23 MPG combined. Sport Mode sees the XT6’s steering response tightened up to provide a more responsive ride while also adjusting the suspension calibration and hydraulic dampers. AWD Mode calls all four wheels into action for improved performance in challenging road conditions, while Off-Road Mode maximizes traction in sand, mud, and other loose surfaces.

This suite of optional equipment includes a chassis with real-time suspension damping that can readjust to changing road conditions every two milliseconds, as well as a performance suspension that reduces pitch and roll for increased confidence through corners. Those trying to haul a boat, trailer or powersports equipment will appreciate the crossover’s 4,000-lb towing capacity, not to mention the optional heavy-duty cooling system, hitch and hitch cover with a 7-wire harness and a Hitch Guidance camera complete with a Hitch View POV that should take a lot of frustration out trailer attachment process.
